My goal is to provide consultation that is customized to the individual needs and circumstances of each institution. From program reviews to staff dynamics and ongoing executive coaching, I bring a skillset to consultations that is uniquely suited to earning trust quickly and entering into situations involving challenging individual or systems level dynamics. I am also sensitive to the embodied provision of effective and efficient wellbeing services, and to dynamics that allow for healthy and productive organizational cultures. At a time when the need for connection, belonging, & meaning are at an all time high and the retention & satisfaction of student affairs employees are at an all time low, I believe it is especially critical that institutions meet the needs of students while providing a satisfying and meaningful place to work.
Willow Tree provides consulting for Health & Wellness Units in a variety of configurations and contexts. As needed, I partner with colleagues who have administrative experience and deep backgrounds in higher education for situations involving multiple units, larger data collection or numbers of interviews, and for especially complex systems dynamics. The team’s complementary skillsets allow us to effectively and efficiently address high level dynamics to help create meaningful and lasting change.
Interested in talking about your situation to see if we are a good fit? Curious about what a consultation could provide? Want to benchmark your services against national standards? Reach out and let’s dialogue.
Dr. David Walden has served in a variety of roles in higher education over the last 25+ years, most recently as Director of the Counseling Center & Lecturer in Psychology at Hamilton College. As Director, he supervised a staff of 15 providers providing multidisciplinary treatment and wellness services. During his time there, the staff at the Counseling Center grew from three therapists to a much larger, multidisciplinary staff and the center moved into a new state-of-the-art donor-funded facility.
Prior to coming to Hamilton in 2008, he provided clinical services at the University of Florida and the University of West Florida. He also served in an administrative role at the University of West Florida as the Assistant Director of the Honors Program, where he oversaw academic offerings, international travel, orientation, advising, and other special projects. During his time at UWF, the Honors Program won multiple awards, including Best Honors Program in the State of Florida and Best Honors Program Publication (“Infinite Wisdom”) in the Nation.
Dr. Walden has twice been elected to the Board of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD), has written several position papers, and contributes to the field through journal articles, conference presentations & keynotes (e.g., NASPA, NYSCHA, ACCA, ACHA, Student Success US, NECCCD, CCNY), news articles (e.g., WSJ, NY Times, Chronicle of Higher Education), and webinars (e.g., US News & World Report, American Council on Education).
